Harmonious companions to a delicious meal: organic wines from Italy

For many people, a good meal is accompanied by a good wine, and Italian cuisine should of course be accompanied by a wine from Italy. Word has spread that there are now excellent organic wines - and many of them come from Italy. At ALLBIO, we can therefore offer a variety of beautiful Italian wines that have something for all the delicacies of Italian cuisine: from fruity red wines to light white wines to slightly heavier and more substantial wines.

Wine knowledge: What do the terms IGT, DOC and DOCG mean?

Wine connoisseurs know what they mean immediately when they see terms like IGT, DOC and DOCG on the labels of wine bottles. But not everyone can immediately make sense of these abbreviations. So here is a short introduction to the meaning of the various abbreviations.

The abbreviation IGT stands for "Indic¬azione Geogr¬afica Tipica", which means "typical geographical indication". It is now often replaced by the newer designation IGP ("Indicacione Geografica Protetta" - "protected geographical indication"), which corresponds to a standardization in the EU wine market regulation.
IGT wines or IGP wines are of a higher quality than simple table wines (Latin: “Vino di Tavola”). They correspond to the French “Vin de Pays”, i.e. they are “country wine”.

DOC stands for "Denominazione di origine controllata" ("controlled designation of origin"). This classification is only given to wines that are quality products from a growing area that produces distinctive and characteristic wines due to its special conditions (e.g. climate). In the quality scale, DOC wines are placed above IGT or IGP wines.

DOCG wines are even more prestigious. The designation "Denominazione di origine controllata" is supplemented by the addition "e gratita" - a sign that particularly high criteria are applied here. This includes, for example, that the wine in question has previously carried the DOC seal for at least 5 years, that it is bottled directly in the growing region and that it is marked with an official banderole.

The abbreviations allow conclusions to be drawn about the quality of the wine. This in turn usually explains the price of the respective wine. All quality levels from IGT/IGP to DOC and DOCG are available in both conventional and organic wine production.

organic wine from Tuscany

With its vast landscapes, tall poplars, old country estates and culturally rich and historic towns, Tuscany always awakens the longing of all Italy fans. Of course, excellent wines also thrive here. The ALLBIO range includes several wines from Tuscany that we source from the organic supplier LaSelva. Here is a brief list of our organic wines from Tuscany:

Organic white wine from Tuscany:
- Organic Sangiovese Bianco Toscana IGT

Organic red wine from Tuscany:
- Organic Privo Maremma Toscana DOC
- Organic Avorio Rosso Toscano IGT
- Organic Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana IGT
- Organic Sangiovese Rosso Toscano IGT
- Organic Prima Causa Maremma Toscana IGT
- Organic Morellino di Scansano DOCG
- Organic Morellino Colli dell' Uccellina DOCG
- Bio Mezza Bottiglia

La Selva has a vineyard in the southern Maremma Natural Park (this is the Parco Maremma, popularly known as the "Parco dell'Uccellina"). This vineyard has the evocative name Colli dell'Uccellina. Would you like to try a wine from this vineyard in sunny Tuscany? It is worth getting to know the "Colli dell' Uccellina" wines (and other wines) from LaSelva!

Anyone who appreciates fruity notes will love the Ciliegiolo Maremma, which is reminiscent of cherries. Anyone looking for a dry white wine will be happy with the Sangiovese blanco. And anyone looking for a spicy top-quality wine should not miss the DOCG-Morellino. One thing is certain: the wine range with a wide variety of wines from Tuscany is really impressive!

organic wine from Veneto

From the beautiful Regione del Veneto, which owes its fertile landscapes to the river Piave, we have the following wines in our range:
-Bio Fiore Divino IGT Veneto
-Organic Merlot DOC Venetia
-Cosi Veneto IGT Rosso

Anyone looking for unsulphured wines, i.e. wines that do not contain any added sulphites, should go for this one: The Bio Fiore Divino IGT is one such wine and also enchants with its fruity cuvée.

Which wine with which food?

Wine, in its diversity, offers endless possibilities to enjoy the wines made from grapes again and again and to find the right accompaniment to every meal. But how do you choose the perfect wine, what criteria should you consider? Ultimately, there is no right or wrong and no general guidelines, because it is of course up to personal taste what you find to be harmonious - and, as we all know, tastes differ. Nevertheless, there is a certain consensus about which type of wine generally goes particularly well with which food. The easy-to-remember rule of thumb is that you can drink full-bodied red wine with red meat, while light white wine is better with white meat or fish and seafood. Sweet or semi-dry wines are mainly chosen to accompany dessert.

At the same time, however, one should not forget that white wines and red wines also vary greatly in terms of their taste notes. From very dry and tart, to a distinctive acidity, to a wide variety of fruit notes and even chocolate aromas, wines can have so many different facets that it is truly an art (and a joy!) to individually select a wonderfully corresponding wine for a very specific dish, although the above rule of thumb can also be neglected from time to time.

Anyone who follows a vegan or vegetarian diet will follow completely different criteria anyway, as they are not guided by the rules regarding fish and meat - especially here it is always exciting to simply try out a lot of things.

Italian organic wine for every occasion

You can find the right wine not only for every dish, but also for every occasion - be it a casual summer evening with friends, where a simple country wine can be served, or a winter evening on the couch, where a rich red wine warms you up nicely. Or a romantic date on the roof terrace, when a sparkling white wine brings refreshment... The occasions are as varied as the delicious organic wines that are the perfect accompaniment.
