Prof. Dietrich Wabner from the Technical University of Munich uses pure, natural essential grapefruit and lemon oils on his pupils and students to support their concentration and learning ability: "... smells are absorbed in the limbic system of the brain, which also processes feelings and memories. If a scent is associated with a certain memory, such as technical terms, these can be recalled as soon as the scent is in the air." Thus, scent experiences can increase memory and also link associations in a targeted manner, for example when learning vocabulary.
